This is my other "Scottish" song, in that is patterned after an old Scottish Ballad.
I wanted try my hand at something different... well you can see the results....
This was done as a live take with a condensor mic and guitar. Takes done as seperate yielded something I was quite unhappy with, so I did it this way, and it came out a bit better. It is still pretty rough, but it was the best my voice could do and the amount of words caused a few stumbles... mostly for lack of memorization.
On to #3...
I met her o' my lady fair
so beautiful and free
green were her eyes and gold her hair
my bonnie she was to me
we two would roam upon the hills
among the grass and tree
and long would we tarry there
when the stars shone so free
But alas the waves did call aloud
sweet songs they sang to me
and my heart was torn in two
for the calling of the sea
(Chorus)
Away to the sea
away to the sea
I know my love
is calling me
away to the sea
My bonnie wept to rend my heart
and cried her love to me
"we once were two, so pure and true
but are we now a three?"
"Two mistresses you can not have
o' pledge yourself to me
stay upon this mountain side
my true love long to be"
Without a word I turned and fled
her nevermore to see
and so I lived upon the waves
and loved the wild sea
(Chorus)
Still on a night I can hear her cry
her voice calls with one plea
"long will I wait for you
on the shores of the sea"
Through years so long and true
as it was and ever shall be
My heart has been split in two
'tween my bonnie and the sea
