ABOUT

Song1 - Say Aye

For the last 2 FAWMs, I've started out trying to write a song in a particular style (Sea Shanty, Drinking Song...) This is a sort of Drinking Song/Jig. It's based on a true story.

My Wife, Jen, and I went to Scotland this last fall. We were on a bus in Edinburgh headed into the city center. The bus was at a stop and a guy got one foot on and then proceeded to ask directions of the driver. Since this was still morning rush, the other riders on the bus were less than pleased with this, as them man kept on asking more directions. We sat for a few minutes... Everytime the man would ask a question, more people on the bus would answer him, from wherever they were sitting, in efforts to get the thing moving. At one point, the man asked a question and about a dozen people all said "Aye"... the driver looks at him and says "The bus says Aye" the guy nods and gets off the bus.

So... no hidden deep meaning here... just an excuse to play a jig.

A further note. The vocals are rough because of cold issues and what not and there are some things I'm not sure I like (the echoed "say aye"), but I give it to you as is, because it's FAWM and that's what it's about. .. finish and move on.

LYRICS

Say Aye

Is this the bus to Charlie Street?
Oh aye, say aye
Two left and right to Newcomb Street?
Oh aye, say aye

The men on the back say aye
The men on the front say aye
The men on the top say aye
All the bus says aye

Is this the bus to Newcomb Street?
Oh aye, say aye
Two right and left to where they meet?
Oh aye, say aye

All the bus says aye
All the bus says aye
All the men on the bus
All the bus says aye

Two right or two left on your feet?
Oh aye, say aye,
Two street or feet to where they meet?
Oh aye, say aye

The men on the back say aye
The men on the front say aye
The men on the top say aye
All the bus says aye

Get on or get off
Get on or get off
