ABOUT
Song8 - Time to take out the tree
I got the idea for this one when my wife and I were visiting friends. (Thanks Burr and Natalie.) We were talking about
Christmas decorations. I stumbled on the idea of a guy procrastinating taking down the Christmas tree so long that it stayed up - indefinitely.
So I wrote the lyrics, having no concept on how they were going to sound. I finally finished them and then started trying to find music
to put to them. I struggled and struggled, but couldn't find a chord progression that really fit the humorous Christmas nature of the music.
What I did come up with was a decent chord progression that was too mellow and somber for the song. I tried to lighten it up with a tin whistle, but some
things just can't be lightened.
Maybe at some point I'll take another swing at a "pop" progression for this and recycle this music into something else - or maybe not.
LYRICS
Time to take out the tree
MP3
The lights have burned out
There’s a short in the cord
But Procrastination
is it’s own reward
It February
I should throw it away
The needles are falling
Maybe another day
(chorus)
Time to take out the tree
The seasons in the past
But if it stays right here
Christmas will seem to last
It was drooping so brown
I thought it might die
But it seemed so pretty
On the fourth of July
Honey, why are you looking at me
Can’t you see
the fall beautiful colors
of our tree
It’s almost December
It’s probably time
A coat of Green paint
It’ll look just fine
