When I was in college I studied Requiems and have always had a fascination for them...
perhaps because of growing up in a Protestant church that doesn't normally go for that sort of thing.
Last year I wrote a piece in latin, using a drum track and pretty synth vibe and quite a
few people liked it, so I thought about doing another one this year. I was going to use the text:
Si hoc carmen tenere potes, operis boni in rebus Latinus alacribus et fructuosis potiri potes:
Translation: If you can understand this song, you can get a job in the fast-paced high-paying world of Latin.
As I started on it, it felt like a cop-out. If I were to do an entire album like that, I could see it...
but doing one song a year felt like a gimmicky sort of thing. So instead I decided to ressurect an idea I
have wanted to do, to see how it fared... to make a modernized rock/classical hybrid Requiem.
This is a "rough" prototype that, as will become evident, was difficult to mix and in spots sing.
I could keep adding harmonies to this thing for weeks and keep mixing and tweaking for months...
but that isn't the FAWM way...
Agnus Dei, qui tollis pecata mundi, dona eis requiem
Translation: Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant unto them rest.
