Song9 - Agnus Dei

When I was in college I studied Requiems and have always had a fascination for them... perhaps because of growing up in a Protestant church that doesn't normally go for that sort of thing.

Last year I wrote a piece in latin, using a drum track and pretty synth vibe and quite a few people liked it, so I thought about doing another one this year. I was going to use the text:

Si hoc carmen tenere potes, operis boni in rebus Latinus alacribus et fructuosis potiri potes:

Translation: If you can understand this song, you can get a job in the fast-paced high-paying world of Latin.

As I started on it, it felt like a cop-out. If I were to do an entire album like that, I could see it... but doing one song a year felt like a gimmicky sort of thing. So instead I decided to ressurect an idea I have wanted to do, to see how it fared... to make a modernized rock/classical hybrid Requiem. This is a "rough" prototype that, as will become evident, was difficult to mix and in spots sing. I could keep adding harmonies to this thing for weeks and keep mixing and tweaking for months... but that isn't the FAWM way...

Translation: Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant unto them rest.
