Song13 - Dissonance

When I saw that the week 4 challenge was dissonance I felt like yelling "YES! The ball's in Farnsworth court now!" (Gold star if you get this joke...)

I was a music theory major (for 2 years) and the theory prof I studied under was sometimes affectionately known as Dr. Dissonance ( Man... There's a superhero for you...) I've spent a good deal of time thinking about dissonance and consonance, and not just in relation to musical tones, but in so many other things. (I won't bore you with this... I could seriously go off on a good hour lecture on the subject...)

I decided to write a song about cognitive dissonance... and how some types of cognitive dissonances can last a long time.

The idea that made this interesting to me is the constant dissonance that is a synth string major second that plays through the whole thing till at the end it is relieved into major chord.

I'm not super fond of the bridge... but didn't know what to do with it...

Considering all the talk of dissonance, this piece isn't nearly up to true "dissonance" standards... I could have made it a lot more "interesting".

LYRICS

Dissonance

tension sitting in your chest
squeezing like a rubber vest
it makes you ill, makes you stressed
constant buzzing, annoying pest

You try to cope, you do your best
it lingers an unwelcome guest
a constant struggle to digest
to put this holy pain to rest

Something is not right
their's a feeling in the air
a disturbance in the force
a nagging itch somewhere
something's not right
and you don't know what to do
but you've got to see it through

Sometimes the bad guys do win
sometimes the good just dont begin
Some things look thick and feel thin
some things look sweet and smell sin

one day you will find
that the buzzing in your mind
was the truth you left behind
and your new thoughts combined
