Said and Done (with Scott O. Clamp)

Lyrics - Scott Martin
Music - Eric Distad

NOTES:

Scott and I decided to try a collaboration. He sent me some great lyrics. One part was titled “Formless, Half-Baked Song to the Muse”, which intrigued me. I made a few minor changes and recorded this.

This was originally a rough work tape I was giving to Scott to ask “what else does it need”, but in so doing we both came to the conclusion that sometimes simple is better. I can hear all kinds of things you could add, including ramping it up to a huge swelling rock opera sort of thing… but we’ll leave that for another day.

Because it was just a rough sketch, I recorded it in a single live take, so forgive the minor rough spots.

This was a lot of fun to do! Even though it’s not a “fun” type song, there’s just something exciting about collaboration! (=

LYRICS:

Please take me to the fountain
I’m running dangerously low
Please take me to the phrases born
Of an endless, timeless flow

Please fill the reservoir in mind
I left the spigot on too long
It all flowed out last night sometime
And I don’t know just where it’s gone

I’m waiting for the water
I’m searching for the sun
I’m waiting for the moment
when all is said and done

Save me from this vicious drought
Sparked to fire with sad neglect
Nothing to hand off to the world
Nothing lacking to perfect

Take this action as my will
Give over any inspiration
I’ll be here when morning comes
Dying for a new creation

I’m lost in a desert
of useless empty words
Deliver me from
restlessness
let me soar with
the birds
