Sisyphus (The World Turns)
NOTES:
And now for something completely different…
EAEEBE capo up 4 frets.
Have you ever had a bad day? In some ways, I’ve had a bad year.
Details aside, one day I came home in a foul mood and penned part of these lyrics. After having got it of my system, I thought about frustration in general and how one of the hardest things to learn in life, it seems, is the right time to call it quits for the day and to try something different, at least for me. I’m not advocating giving up… especially not when we’re talking about FAWM… but I’ve come to learn that I need to fight my own stubborn streak sometimes and learn to accept a local defeat in favor of winning the war, so to speak.
Since I updated the pirates song, all of my songs are now running close to 5:00 in length… this was not intentional… I just appear to be long winded this year.
(As an aside, Sisyphus was a character in Greek Myth whose punishment was to roll a boulder up a hill… only to watch it roll down again. He had to continue rolling it up the hill… forever. I’ve had days like that.)
LYRICS
When you beat your head
against the wall
It’s the bricks that break
or it’s you
Sometimes you get up
Sometimes you fall
The scrapes you make
shine through
And the world spins
despite your whims
No one loses
no one wins
The world spins
and the sun will rise
Change the black to gold
And burn the skies
When boulder seems so big
and the hill is steep
You’d trade your kingdom and your throne
for a different view
Break the grip of gravity
No matter how you leap
Fall back down a million times
There’s nothing left to do
Sometimes the best thing to give is up
Sometimes the best course to set is back
Sometimes you’re the hammer
Sometimes the nail
It’s time to try another tack
