A Thousand Little Lies

Liner Notes:

The irony of this for the week one challenge is that I had this in mind since before FAWM started. It came out quite a bit different than I had heard it in my head, but I’m not too unhappy with the end product. Sometimes you have to let a song be what it is rather than what you want it to be.

From a young age we are given impressions of how the world should be. The American Dream, etc… Some people learn to adapt, others try to change the world to match the picture they have in their head. When there is no room for change… for accepting things as they are rather than as we would want them to be… there is trouble.

One little extra note… This song started as a bass riff. Listening to it on something with little to no bass response, say like laptop speakers (as I just discovered) really detracts from the experience. Just FYI. smile

Lyrics:

Focus past the frame to the picture
You’re the woman I’m the man
a house and a dog and a yard
a reference blueprint, a lifetime plan

If only we could have the picket fence
If only you would wear the dress
If only we could smile a little more
If only you would hide your mess

A thousand bitter words to shape your mind
A thousand winter suns to chill your heart
A thousand little lies to keep you blind
a thousand little songs, a thousand bitter songs

Why won’t the dog fetch my slippers
Why won’t they sell their car
why can’t I shake the feeling
that we may have gone too far

There is no room to change the picture
There are no poems from a perfect bride
Be careful that your makeup doesn’t run
When you cry when you hide

A picture can be worth a thousand lies
but in the end a man is only one

He didn’t come to save a picture
He isn’t here to make it true
A thousand words is too many
when all you need is two

(I believe)
