Main Event Explanation

This was a song I wrote for FAWM. I had been listening to NPR on the way to work and the coverage of Presidential Politics had become overwhelming and nauseating.

Based on feedback from my fellow FAWMers, I decided to try something slower and distorted. I also had a nasty head cold, which prevented me from singing in my upper register.

The song is in drop D. It fascilitated me singing lower and with less energy, which, ironically, worked better than a lot of my higher energy songs. The last bit was a throw in, since I had the song moving to this final chord progression, but didn't know what to put there. I was playing along and I just belted it out. I liked it so much, I named the song after it.

I'll take black
You'll take white
Just because we can
Dig down
For the fight
That lives inside every man

We lie down here
Innocent youth
Struggled mighty
To find the truth
Sliced bread ideas
that lacked the proof
and so on we go

I've got black
You've got blue
And we're still across the aisle
Too far to stop
We'll see it through
At least for a while

My sacred cows
Are as big as theirs
We've both agreed
To split the hairs
My children here
better beware
The line from the other side
